Irene Godfrey


Irene Godfrey was born in Co. Durham, near Blanchland, in 1955. After pursuing a career in theatre she trained at the Cass School of Art, London Metropolitan University (BA Fine Art, 2012). Group exhibitions include: Not Just a Postcard, Florence Arts Centre, Cumbria, (2019); All Change Please, Cave, London (2018): Middlesbrough Art Weekender (2017); Palimpsest, Hanover, Germany, Solastalgia-witness to change, Greenwich, Ellipse, Remise Gallery, Berlin and Angelica Studios High Wycombe,SIXTY, Art-Athina, London and Athens (2016); Hundreds and thousands, Angus Hughes Gallery, and The Windows are Illuminated, Embassy Tea Gallery (London, 2015); Diamond Bullet, James Freeman Gallery (London 2014); Scape, Espacio Gallery, Shoreditch; Show Of*!, Mile End Art Pavilion; Strike Against Art, the Nunnery (London, 2013); 20/20 Collective Exhibition, the Vyner Studio; Reveal: Graduate Art Show, Guerrilla Galleries at the Daniel Libeskind Space; BA Fine Art Summer Show, Cass School of Art (London, 2012). Upon graduation she won awards in both the Owen Rowley Prize and the Annual University Vice Chancellor's Purchase Prize. Godfrey was included in Verfhond's List of NEW MASTERS 2014 and 2016. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Ecology and Environment (Birkbeck College, 2010). Her work is represented in the London Metropolitan University collection and in private collections across the UK. She lives and works in Kent and London.
